Full Name: Hermione Jane Granger
Hermione - is derived from the name of the Greek god Hermes. Hermes was the Greek god of speed and good luck. This was also the name of a character in Shakespeare's play 'The Winter's Tale'. JKR chose the name from Shakespeare's play, although she says that the two characters are not alike.
Jane - is derived from a number of names which when traced come back to meaning 'gracious.'
Granger - means 'a farm bailiff,' originally from Latin 'granum' meaning 'grain'

Date of Birth: September 19 1979

Family: Hermione's parents are both Muggles and they are both dentists. Hermione has a younger sister (Muggle). This is never mentioned in the books, but JKR mentioned it in an interview. It's probably too late for the sister to make an appearance now, so it's unlikely we will hear about her in the upcoming books.

Physical Appearance: Brown, bushy haired girl, with large teeth (with a bossy sort of voice).

Admirable Traits: Intelligent, brave, loyal, very logical.

Insecurities: Comes from a different world (a Muggle family) and hides her fears and copes by overachieving.

  1. Emma was born Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson II on April 15, 1990 at Oxford, England.
  2. She has appeared in school plays like Arthur: The Young Years and The Happy Prince.
  3. At age seven, she won the Daisy Pratt Poetry Compettition.
  4. At ten, casting directors came to her school, and she was encouraged to audition by her school principal, along with her other classmates. She had done about five auditions, and she tried to enjoy the whole process. She beat out thousands of hopefuls as she got the part of Hermione Granger, her first professional acting job.
  5. Emma was with Rupert when David Heyman (producer) told them both that they were going to play Hermione and Ron, respectively.
  6. She has one younger brother named Alex.
  7. Her parents are both lawyers, but in a tv appearance, she said that she wouldn't want to become a lawyer because it is "way boring."
  8. She loves shopping. She also hopes to have a better fashion sense than the character she plays.
  9. She likes sports. She's not as academic as Hermione, and not as obsessed with school either.
  10. In an online interview, she expressed her wish to play Quidditch in the future.
  11. She likes Hermione because she's bossy and nerdy, which makes her really funny without Hermione realizing it.
  12. Her likes include Brad Pitt and chocolates. In fact, she has been known to have a Brad calendar in her trailer.
  13. Hagrid is her favorite character in the books, but she would like to play Malfoy in the movies because it would be "fun to play around with!"
  14. If she went to Hogwarts, she would be in Gryffindor, because "you gotta be with the goodies."
  15. If she had a magical power, she would make herself 16 and invisible so she could sneak in rock concerts.
  16. Emma is still hesitant about the future romance in the books. She maintains that the choice of whom Hermione is going to end up with is up to J.K. Rowlings, and that either Harry or Ron would be a fine choice for Hermione. Emma's friends however, have something else in mind. "Their prediction is Ron," Emma says in one of her magazine interviews. Hmmm...
  17. Hermione has since then changed her mind and, in many interviews, has expressed her want of a relationship between Ron and Hermione and exclaims "They have got to get it together already, it's been going on for so long!"
