Quotes (by Emma)

Give me a thumbnail sketch of who Hermione is.
EMMA: Hermione is a saucy teacher's pet who's obsessed with school, very mommy's girl. She's a bit of a nerd, but is very -- she's a real bookworm.

What did you do when you found out you got the part of Hermione?
I rang my best friend, just as I'd been told, literally minutes after I'd been told, I rung my friend and she answered and she said: "So have you got it?" And I said: "Yes." And she screamed, she literally just went arghhh - it was like five minutes, I had to hold the phone here, not to be able to break my ear and she was so excited she was almost more excited than me.

What was your fave line from the film?
I liked the line at the end where I said: "I'm going to bed before either of you come up with another clever idea to get us killed, or worse, expelled!" And another one was where I said: "Honestly you're going to take someone's eye out!" Hermione always has some really snooty lines for Ron, I think Ron gets the worst of it really.

Emma, you are sort of the only girl in the film. How was that?
EMMA: It was sort of hard being the only girl in a film for six months. Hermione's got to be very "nose up'. I think that's the whole of her charisma. If she didn't have that, she'd be normal and it's what creates her really. The fact that she's so 'Well, I'm right and you're wrong'. I love that in her.

What was the most challenging scene for you? (CoS)
EMMA: Some of Hermione's lines left me wondering what on earth she was going on about!

Do you think Hermione will marry Ron in the end?
No way! Ewww! I think it's weird because I'm thinking of myself in the part.

It lasts only three seconds, but one scene in the new Harry Potter film had fans agog ... could the way Hermione hugs Harry be the first sign of love? Or does her heart really belong to Ron Weasley? The riddle is posed in a scene that appears nowhere in the book Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. An overjoyed Hermione runs towards her friends, hugging Harry in front of the entire school, but managing only an embarrassed handshake with Ron.
EMMA: "That's a question for J.K. Rowling," she said. "Who would I go for? They're both gorgeous."

Can you predict one thing you think will happen to each of your characters in the books?
EMMA: She will do something really clever, like she'll be a doctor or something, or she'll be really academic.

You guys will be 75 years old and in your rockers and still be known as the Harry Potter children. Is there a downside to that?
EMMA: I could be 100 years old and in my rocker and I'll always be very, very proud that I was in a Harry Potter film.

Okay, Emma, in 7 years, throughout these "Potter" films, who is Hermione going to end up with, Harry or Ron?
EMMA: This is so embarrassing. I have no idea. I reckon I'm going to be single. I believe that Hermione will end up single.

HER...ME...O...WHAT?
EMMA: "This REALLY bugs me!" says Watson of her character's unusual name. ''I go around saying, 'Everyone repeat it with me: Her-MY-oh-nee,' because everyone says Her-my-WON, Her-my-OWN.''

And what did the other kids say at school? (mocking tone of voice) "Why you? Why you, Emma Watson?" (audience laughter)
EMMA: Because I'm worth it. (wild audience laughter, clapping, cheering)
KELLY: I guess she told you!

EMMA: It's kind of one of those classic love-hate romance going on between Hermione and Ron. But I think deep down they have a bit of a soft spot for each other.

EMMA: Between Ron and Hermione, it's one of those classic love-hate relationships. And on the outside, they are constantly fighting, and so they argue all the time, but I think deep down they have a bit of a soft spot for each other.

EMMA: Aw, cmon, you know its gotta be Hermione and Ron!

Emma's insight into her character: EMMA: "Hermione's more of a mother figure for Harry, and spends most of her time worrying about him." "She kind of has a boyfriend in this film, which for Ron and Harry is a bit of a shock. Especially for Ron, who has only just realized she's a girl."

What was cut that was in the book? [PoA](Prompts from the audience - "Some scenes with Ron?") EMMA: My goodness. Yeah, there were a couple of fights with Ron that were cut.

(Prompts from the audience - "And a hug?") EMMA:There was an awkward hug with Ron that was cut.

Why was it cut? EMMA: Why? I think, on the exterior, Hermione and Ron spend the whole film just arguing with each other, because Ron is convinced that Hermione's cat, Crookshanks, has eaten his rat. But I think it's a bit of a cover-up really, because they have a bit of a soft spot for each other and it's one of those classic love/hate relationships. You always tease the ones you like.

EMMA: I never thought they hold cat-and-the-rat fight scene could again be something that they're just trying to-just any excuse to-to make it out that they hate each other, ANY excuse. They're always niggling at each other and just about stupid things where you just-it's not worth it! You know? Let it go, um, but they're just-they're just doing it because there's always this, um, there's always this threat that they might actually like each other...and they don't like that at all.

Were you surprised that it would be Ron, rather than Harry, that Hermione be interested in? EMMA: Well, Harry's the hero, I suppose, but obviously not for Hermione!

EMMA: I'm actually, I'd quite like to see Hermione and Ron together, I mean, it's gotta happen! You know? It's just THERE! *head movement*

EMMA: She [Hermione] kind of has a boyfriend in this film, which is-Ron and Harry, is a bit of a shock, really, especially for Ron, who um, who, you know, has only realised she's a girl.

EMMA: I really hope that Hermione and Ron get together in the end, because, I think they make a good couple.

There's some sexual chemistry there, and yet, they're kind of completely out of it.
EMMA: No, they're really not there, I really think it's with Ron though, I really think he's jealous, I really think when she goes to the ball with Viktor Krum, he's jealous.

EMMA: There's a huge emotional range for Hermione, in that, in the beginning, from being completely in love and swept off her feet, then to the end, just being completely crushed and gutted by her fairytale being ruined by Ron, who is very jealous. It was a big challenge for me, but I really enjoyed it.

EMMA: Well, actually, nothing actually happens to Hermione and Ron in this one, just he gets very jealous because she turns up to the ball with Viktor Krum.
I thought your character was going to get it on with Ron...what happened?!
EMMA: Fourth year, still nothing! *hand gesture*

EMMA:I love Rupert because he has the best comic timing of anyone! I think he's absolutely hilarious. He can make me laugh like no one else.

EMMA: Well, actually, I have just shot a scene where I blast him [Ron/Rupert], and slam him against a back wall, with a spell because he makes a very sexist and patronizing comment, but apart from that, we're getting on very well.
