Quotes (by Rupert)

DANIEL: At the Yule Ball I remember Rupert and me were like oh, my God we’re wearing dresses.
Did you have a similar moment when you read that?
RUPERT: Definitely. I was scared.

What do you think will happen in regard to Ron's love life?
RUPERT: Everyone expects that Ron and Hermione will go out, but I don't think that would be an effective finish. I must say that this idea doesn't delight me... At the moment, I have no desire to play the romantic scenes. I already had a lot of trouble with certain scenes in Prisoner of Azkaban in which I had to hold Emma's hand, then be embarrassed.
What do you think the other two would morph into?
DANIEL: I don’t know.
RUPERT: You always said that I was like a frog.
DANIEL: I didn’t say you were like a frog.
RUPERT: You did in one of the pictures.
DANIEL: Did I?
RUPERT: Yes.
DANIEL: That was during my horrible phase. I don’t know Rupert. What would you like to be? You like camels.
RUPERT: Camels are quite cool.
DANIEL:: So he can be a camel.
It’s a handy thing to be, you know. You can go a long time without water.

DANIEL: I convinced you that I was a werewolf. RUPERT: He did, yes. DANIEL: I told him I was a werewolf. RUPERT: And I believed you as well. You couldn’t have done really. RUPERT: Oh, I did, yes.

If you could play another character in the Harry Potter universe, who would you choose?
RUPERT: Malfoy! I like the mean characters in movies and it would have been a pleasure to play him! It also must be inspiring to have millions of fans that hate you! [laughs]

RUPERT:

Now that you've practiced a little bit of magic, have you thought what you would do if you had the gift of being able to wave a wand and make something happen?
RUPERT: I would probably be invisible so I can sneak (out of) detentions.

RUPERT:

For quite a while, you've had longer hair than usual. What motivated you to change your look?
RUPERT: Nothing at all; it's just my natural laziness! [laughs] After Prisoner of Azkaban shooting, I was simply too lazy to go to the hairdresser. When the producers saw my new cut, they demanded that I keep it for Goblet of Fire. They thought that it was similar to Ron's personality. This decision is fine with me, since I never was fond of cutting my hair!

Have you always wanted to be an actor?
RUPERT: No. When I was younger, I dreamed of becoming an icecream man. But it should be said that that job doesn't give you many options. [laughs] If I wasn't an actor, I'd love to be a designer. Drawing is one of my favorite pastimes. I love animated movies and TV shows, especially Spongebob.

Daniel Radcliffe hates to see himself on-screen. Do you?
RUPERT: No, not at all. I'll go and watch past films easily enough. For example, I watched Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone a bit ago and found it quite entertaining! To see my younger self didn't really disturb me. The only thing I thought was a bit strange was hearing my voice before it changed. I found that rather unbearable! [laughs]

How did you get involved with the film?
I found out that you could audition by sending a picture of yourself and some information to Newsround. I did my own video with me, first of all, pretending to be my drama teacher who unfortunately was a girl and then I did a rap of how I wanted to be Ron and then I made my own script thing up and sent it off.

Tell us about filming the scene with huge chess figures close to the end of the movie.
I think the chess thing was pretty difficult because there was loads of dust everywhere and the pieces were really big - I got to sit on a horse which was really fun. It was Ron's turn in the limelight because all the way through the film Harry's been the one who's been doing all the brave stuff and Ron felt a bit bad but he felt happy for Harry because he's his best friend. But I think Ron was really happy because that's his thing - chess really.

What's the most frequently asked question you get?

RUPERT: Actually there is this question that always comes up which is "have you met Daniel Radcliffe?!"

How do you feel about the fact that you have created a wave of acceptance for redheads?

RUPERT: I still get called ginger a lot, but I don't mind that as I'm used to it. And I'm in great company - look at Nicole Kidman!

How much acting have you done before?

RUPERT: Just like school plays. Like one time I was a fish in Noah's Ark and now I'm in Harry Potter, a big step.
You must have been one heck of a fish.
RUPERT: Yes.

Ever dreamed of being super famous?

RUPERT: Being famous is wicked. But it's better to be normal.
DANIEL: I think these two [points at Emma and Rupert, i.e. Hermione and Ron] are going to get together. That's my prediction.

Well Rupert, what do you say to that?

RUPERT: Yeah, that's what I was going to say as well. I was going to say hope they don't fall for each other. [said in very 'teenager, grossed out by love' way.]
But do you think they will?
RUPERT: Yes.

Do you like it that there's a Ron action figure that looks like you?

RUPERT: The action figure kind of scares me. It's really scary [to think that] someone's playing with you. It's not real nice.
Why is it scary?
RUPERT: Someone's playing with you. It's not real nice!

If you played Quidditch, which position would you play?

RUPERT: I would be a beater.

When, say, a young girl comes up to you, recognizes you and starts getting very excited, what do you do; how do you calm her down
RUPERT: Um, well...They would just ask for my autograph, which is really weird. I've got a signature and everything. It's hard to get used to.

What do you think was the most challenging thing about filming Chamber of Secrets as opposed to The Sorcerer's Stone?
RUPERT: I think coughing up slugs was quite hard. I had this giant slug in my mouth loaded with slime and I spat them out, and they tasted really nice. I think it was plastic or something – at least I hope it was plastic.

Is Emma bossy like Hermione?
RUPERT: I'd tell you, but she'd hurt me.

RUPERT: She's [Emma] a great girl.

(Alloy Interview '06)Was it weird to film without Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson?
RUPERT:It was quite weird because on Harry Potter, the main bit of the cast is all kids. There weren't many kids on this one.

Who do you relate to more -- Ron Weasley or Ben?
RUPERT: Ron. Ben's sort of shy and really sort of quiet and a bit complicated. I think I'm more laid back.

How does it feel to have girls fawn over you now?
RUPERT: It was really hard to get used to -- it was a bit weird at first. Now, I think I'm all right with it.

Would you ever date a fan?
RUPERT: Yeah, I think so, if they were nice enough.

Would you ever date a co-star?
RUPERT: It would be a bit weird -- seeing them everyday. I don't know if it would work.

What do you look for in a girl?
RUPERT: A good sense of humour.

(MTV article on Driving Lessons [4.24.06])
RUPERT: Ben is a lot more quiet, while Ron's more laid-back. I relate more to Ron, because I also come from a big family, but Ben's more based on ['Driving Lessons' director] Jeremy Brock, what he was like.

RUPERT: I'm dueling Hermione, and I get thrown back a lot, which we do with me wearing a harness. We're doing quite a few stunts, but the really big fight scenes are coming up.
