Hermione Granger
Hermione Jane Granger (born 19 September 1979) is a fictional character in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter book series. The character is portrayed by Emma Watson in the films.
Hermione is a Gryffindor student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and is one of the best friends of Harry Potter and Ron and Ginny Weasley. She plays an important role in many of Harry's adventures and serves as a moderating influence on both Harry and Ron.
Hermione's name is pronounced "her-MY-oh-nee". "Hermione" is derived from "Hermes", the Greek god of invention, inspiration, eloquence and quick thinking. It is also the name of the legendary Helen of Troy's daughter in Greek mythology. Hermione's surname was originally going to be "Puckle," which Rowling eventually realised didn't suit her. Since "Puckle" is a term for an elf or goblin, it is arguable she felt it clashed with Hermione's rational, empirical nature.
Hermione has brown eyes and, when she first appears, "bushy brown hair and rather large front teeth". Many at the school have teased her for her looks, including, on one occasion, Professor Snape. Hermione is very studious, and can be bossy and fussy; she is one of the most intelligent students in her year and one of the best in the entire school. She is often teased for this reason. Harry and Ron depend on her for academic help, and her knowledge and common sense always prove valuable in overcoming the trio's challenges.
Hermione is Muggle-born, that is, the child of two non-magical parents. Her parents, both dentists, are (according to Rowling) "a bit bemused by their odd daughter, but quite proud of her all the same".
For years it was widely assumed that she was born in September 1980, the same year as Ron and Harry. However, Rowling pointed out that to attend Hogwarts, one must be eleven years old, and Hermione was born in 1979. Therefore Hermione is nearly twelve when she begins school in September of 1991.
Hermione's wand is made of vine wood with a dragon heartstring core. Each of the trio's wands have one of Mr Ollivander's three preferred cores, with Harry having phoenix feather and Ron having unicorn hair. Her wand's wood, vine, is the wood ascribed to her birth month in the Celtic calendar.

Hermione would have to be my second favorite character. I think I said once before that I liked her because I can relate to her. Thanks for posting the info on Hermione Monikita.
AnnaR:
I can relate to her to an extreme. :) I definately don't read as much as she does and I don't enjoy studying either. But she has a sense of humour and is very intelligent, and I bet that's what Ron likes about her. ;)

hermione is my favourite character. i can relate to her a bit too because i am good at my studies, i luv reading (but probably not as much as she does), i have even bushier hair than her, i am not that social, i do tend to be quite serious and i am very good friends with two bots (although i am not in love with one of them!).
i felt so sorry when ron went off with lavender that i almost cried myself. hermione is a very serious person but many think that one of the reasons she loves books is so that she can hide from the rest of the world when she reads it. i think that hermione is a very emotional person and can be overract a bit too much.

Hermione and I are totally opposites...I really love the whole Ron and Hermione story, but I think she needs to relax a bit...but that's Ron's job! LOL
Sum1:
let's hope he loosens her up a bit ;)
HSK:
Yes, that's why I think they would make a great couple. They can learn alot from one another. Hermione is intelligent and brave. She's just the type of girl Ron needs mostly in terms of smarts, but she always seems to do the right thing. I admire that about her and the courage she shares with her two best guy friends.
manuep_666:
i love hermione shes my favoyrite character (with ron)
i feel really conected with her in a lot of aspects, like im kinda serious and bossy, especially with my siblings
i hope she doesnt die because that would be extremely sad for me
HarryPotterPrincess:
i so love hermione/ emma!
i think she is great, but she scares me when she gets mad, LOL
i hope her, ron, OR harry don't die because i will so throw the book in a toilet and cry til i puke!!! LOL, just kidding but i hope they ACTUALLY don't die!!
HSK:
^Lol, I'm glad you were just kidding because I was thinking, "Throw the last Harry Potter book in the toilet? That's just crazy." No, but I do agree, I don't want any of them to die. Hermione being one of them because I think she's brilliant and it would be so disappointing to see her go like that.

I think J.K. Rowling found the perfect actors to play Hermione, Ron, and Harry. Did you know that Haley Joel Osment, star of the Sixth Sense and older brother of Hannah Montana regular, Emily Osment was set to play Harry Potter, referred to by Steven Speilberg, but J.K. Rowling insisted on an all-British cast. But I'm really glad she did, because Daniel Radcliffe is brilliant.
Ginny_Potter0114:
Hermione's my favorite character, because I can relate to her and just because I like her character.
Sum1 said that maybe Ron would loosen her up. To me, she seems like she can let herself go, even if she can be serious and strict. Remember the time she punched Draco? And she'll also do a lot to protect her friends, even if it means breaking a few rules.
PheonixAngel:
Hermione is my favorite female character.(Faviorite male Ron) She is smart, clever, brave, and doesn't follow the crowd. She is an ideal role-modle.
